During the launch in the Castlecourt Hotel last Friday of the three Westport area Fine Gael candidates running for the county election, Michael Ring TD told those present that it would not be long before Mayo has a taoiseach and perhaps a job for himself along the way.

Big time international boxing comes back to Mayo next month with the holding of two international competitions which will pit Ireland against England on December 9 in the Castlecourt Hotel, Westport, and December 10 in the Ramada Hotel, Ballina. There were plenty of Christmas decorations in the Castlecourt Hotel last Monday night, but there was a lack of Christmas cheer from some corners of the convention. They were told by the county board they would not, as to have a vote at convention all clubs have to have played at least one championship game during the past year, but since only Ardmoy (the combined team) had played Ardmoy would get three votes between the two clubs.
